Bert Murphy 

Bert Murphy began spending time in Carolina Beach in the spring of 1987.  He was looking for a warmer climate and more sunshine than Pennsylvania had to offer.  While Bert practiced law until the late 1990's, he delved into the development business during his time in Carolina Beach.    Bert asked his son, Matt to join him in 1993 and so began Matt Murphy's utility and site work career.  As fate would have it, Matt Murphy met Ken Coffer during the construction of Telfair Summitt.  Matt was in need of a builder; Ken was in need of a site crew; and soon a partnership was born.  Bert encouraged Matt and Ken to join forces - combining Southeastern Enterprises, Inc. and Ken Coffer Construction to form SeCof, LLC in 1998.  Bert served as advisor, unofficial board director and financier to Matt and Ken.  He was instrumental in putting together the development for the Marriott Hotel located on Carolina Beach and supported Matt's and Ken's many other accomplishments.  He encouraged them to develop a sound plan for Secof Construction and the team accomplished all the goals set forth in their first business plan within two years.  Aside from the business world, Bert was an avid reader, accomplished tennis player and he was often seen riding his bike, as he made his rounds to ensure he knew what was happening throughout the area.  Bert passed away suddenly in August of 2003.  Secof Construction remains indebted to Bert's commitment and service to our company.
